The short version
Marey collects no data. No analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no account, no sign-in. Marey does not connect to the internet on its own. This policy also explains the two cases where you may choose to send me something: a bug report and a feature request. Those are the only personal data I ever handle, and this policy tells you what happens to them.
Who is responsible

I am the data controller for the processing described below, within the meaning of the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679.
What stays on your Mac
Everything. Your video files are read from where you put them and are never uploaded anywhere.
Your preferences (language, shortcuts, last-used mode, delivery targets) are stored in Marey's own container on your Mac. I never see them.
Proxy files. Some professional formats, such as ProRes and MXF, cannot be decoded by the web engine Marey uses to display video. Marey builds a temporary H.264 proxy on your Mac, stores it in its own container, and reuses it. You can delete all of them at any time in Settings. Your original file is never modified.
Finder tags. When you sort a clip, Marey writes a Finder tag to that file. This happens only when you ask for it. Marey marks the tags it creates and removes only its own, so tags you set yourself are preserved. Nothing about this leaves your Mac.
Audio correction. When you export a level-corrected file, Marey writes a new file to the location you choose. The original is never modified.
Display refresh rate. When you ask Marey to match your display to a clip's frame rate, the change is made through a public Apple interface, it applies only while Marey is running, and your previous setting is restored automatically. Nothing is recorded.
None of this is transmitted to me or to anyone else. Under Apple's definition, data processed only on device is not collected, which is why Marey is listed as "Data Not Collected" on the App Store.
If you send me a bug report
Marey can assemble a technical report to help me fix a problem: the app version, the versions of Electron and Chromium it runs on, your macOS version, your Mac model, your display refresh rate, the mode you were in, and the frame rate, codec and resolution of loaded clips. File names and file paths are never included. This report is not sent by Marey. It is displayed to you in full, you copy it, and you decide whether to send it from your own mail app.
What I receive: your email address, your message, and whatever you chose to include.
Why: to answer you and fix the problem.
Legal basis: my legitimate interest in providing support for software you bought, Article 6(1)(f) GDPR.
How long I keep it: up to 3 years after our last exchange, then the message is deleted.
Who else sees it: my email provider, acting as my processor, and yours.
If you send me a feature request
The feature form is hosted on Google Forms. Google acts as my processor; I remain the controller for the answers you submit. Google's own privacy policy applies in addition to this one.
What the form asks for: what problem you are trying to solve, what you would like Marey to do, and how you work. It does not require you to sign in and it does not request your email address.
Why: to decide what to build next.
Legal basis: your consent, given by choosing to submit the form, Article 6(1)(a) GDPR. You can withdraw it at any time by writing to support@hccrea.com.
How long I keep it: up to 3 years, or until the idea has been built or rejected, whichever comes first.
Transfers outside the EU: Google may process the answers outside the European Union, under the safeguards described in Google's privacy policy.
Links that open in your browser
Marey contains a few links: to this site, to the FFmpeg sources on GitHub, and to the feature form. They open in your default browser, outside the app. Marey itself makes no network connection.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to the processing of your personal data, and the right to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of them, write to support@hccrea.com. I answer within one month. There is no automated decision-making and no profiling. If you believe your rights have not been respected, you can lodge a complaint with the French data protection authority, the CNIL, at www.cnil.fr.
Children
Marey is not directed at children and is rated 4+. It collects no data from anyone of any age.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
